Popularity according to an 8 year old

So I gave Bryce a pair of my old sunglasses the other day. He's been wearing them happily. Saturday in the car he said, "I am going to be popular in high school. To be popular in high school you have to drive a car and wear sunglasses."

If it were only that simple.

And where is HE gonna get a car?!?!

First day of Spring

So last week was so beautiful out. Sun shining, upper 50's lower 60's. Kids wore sweatshirts to school.....SO NICE! Hoping spring was here. Here I caught the twins outside and they were just chatting away. Hanging out! It was cute. I loved Sammy crossing his legs.

This is what happened last night.....the actual first day of spring:

I forgot the funnies....

So I forgot the funny things Daniel did on our trip. First we passed UC-Davis on our way over. It's RIGHT off I-80 and has some really beautiful buildings. He asked if that was the hospital. I said no, it was a college. He then said he wanted to go there. I told him he has to be really smart which means he has to go to kindergarden and go all the way thru school. At this point it is quiet for a minute. Then he proceeds to count.....to 100......for the next 10 minutes! Does good! Then he says, "99, 100! SEE! I am smart! I can go there!" It was cute.

Later we were getting into the car and Kevin tells Daniel, "Jump in Bartholomew" Daniel says, in a TOTALLY serious tone, "Dad, why would you say 'Barf I love you'?"

Funny boy! DVD player broke 1 hour into trip! So we did comment on the days when he slept the entire way! He was quite the chatterbox!

Oakland Children's Hospital

So Thursday we took Daniel to California. We have 'graduated' from Stanford's children's hospital and now get to go to Oakland. Dr. Elizabeth Talley was a 1st year fellow when we started 4 1/2 years ago going to Stanford. She was a pediatrican and studying nephrolgy to specialize. She was with us the whole pre-transplant phase of Daniel's life. We fell in love with her and were really sad she graduated. But guess who has a practice at Oakland we get to go see?!?!?! YEP! Dr. Talley! We were so thrilled to see her and catch up with her. It's been 2 1/2 years since she had seen Daniel, so she was very excited to see how big he was and how well he was doing. The appoinement was mostly us visiting. Daniel looked great. Changed a med dosage, but other than that....nothing new. We will go see her 3 times a year and Stanford once a year.

More great news is that Oakland is 1 1/2 hours CLOSER than Stanford! ONE WAY! So it took us 4 1/4 hours to get there. We can easily do this in a day trip which is great for Kevin's days off and his parents who rearranged their temple schedule to come watch our other kids for us. (Which we are so grateful for!) That will save on hotel and food costs! Plus we passed about 4 fruit and veggie stands! Can't wait for the fall when all those are busting at the seams! We are thinking this summer trip to drag the trailer and go camping somewhere near the ocean....then Daniel can play in the water, too!

A 'real' 5K run

So Friday afternoon I went outside with my trainer and her Kaia group and I ran 5K. So the first half (1.5 miles) was INTO the wind.....could never catch my breath! Side cramp 1/2 mile into the run. Turned around at 1.5 miles to complete the 5K and it was a little better. Cramp got better, my breathing still struggled although it was better than against the wind. I did finish, however, but I think only because I wanted to get to the car faster....had to go pee! :-)

Time? Embarassed to say it was 37:36. Walked probably 1/5 of it to make the cramp lessen. That cold wind wrecked havoc on my lungs the rest of the night. Felt like I had pneumonia. About 10:30 that night (6 1/2 hours later) I was finally able to cough out the last flem and the burning in my lungs went away when I breathed. Better luck next time!

Good news.....my knees and my hip only ache. No sharp pains. (No cartiledge in knees and bursitis in right hip. Getting OLD!) My GREAT trainer ran the last half with me and was such a great cheerleader! She pointed out (when I told her how disappointed I was in my run) that 2 months ago I would have probably laughed at her if she would have suggested running 3 miles! She is right.

That's our boy.....

So we had some trouble with Comptyn's teacher. We just didn't see eye to eye. So before Christmas break we switched teachers. Comptyn came back in January to a new teacher. And look what he got!

So we are glad he is loving school again. He is a peacemaker and would do anything to make you happy. Good student, little squirrely, 100% boy! Glad he has a teacher that sees the good in him! We love him!

Bear Lake

So a friend of ours gave us her timeshare at Garden City, UT on Bear Lake. We are headed there next month for Spring Break. Any ideas from anyone, who has been there, of what to do? I have searched cities around....not much. Lake will be a little cold. We plan on renting a boat, playing tennis, pool will be closed. Even if we have to drive an hour to get to something....

Thanks!
Amy

PS I have googled. I jsut like to know those great places either locals know of or people who have been there before discovered.
