Camping at Stampede

A week ago we came back from a camping trip from Stampede Reservoir.  It's up by Squaw Valley/Tahoe area.  SO beautiful!  There was a fishing derby going on the first few days we were there.  (6 days/5 nights)  So during the day everyone was either fishing or playing on the water.  Camp was pretty quiet.  One of our trips down to the reservoir we did one of our favorite water 'games'.  Daddy throws a rock and everyone else tries to hit that rock.  Sounds silly, but try it sometime!

We did a lot of hiking and sometimes got some geocaching done.  This was our longest hike.  The kids are resting.  This geocache took us about 3 hours to complete.  Hike had to have been easily 5 miles.  The kids did really good thanks to the MANY deer we saw!  Lots of does and one doe even had a fawn with it.  Walked the coast so we stopped frequently to throw rocks in.  Notice our duct tape water bottle holders? That was our camp craft.

Don't know if you noticed Nathan's head in that last picture.  Day 2 Bryce 'dropped' a rock on Nathan's head and split it open.  Not as bad as we thought.  Wouldn't have even used super glue, but it bled a bit and hurt a lot!  Can't go camping w/o a casualty!

We played MANY, MANY games!  Disney Monopoly, 7-Up, Mormon Bridge, Huggermugger, Kubb, and more!

This is a deer we named Clover.  She came strolling into our camp one day.  VERY tame and hungry.  So much.....

I fed it a carrot!  Once down by the water we saw a bald eagle fly over us.  That was amazing!

Clover got within reach out and pet from many of the boyz.

Fun time!  Beautiful area!  We are leaving for our Lake Chabot by Oakland in a bit for Daniel's appts.  We really love it up there and look forward to it!  Hope your summer is as fun as ours has been!

Look so fun. Your boys will always remember that. How did the food go?

Interesting you should post this right now. We recently made reservations to go camping at Stampede. We've never been there but it had been recommended by 2 different people so we thought we'd check it out. This post made me even more excited. (And after trek is over I think I'm going to be very ready for a little vacation!) (: What campground did you stay at? We are staying at Logger. Do you guys tent camp or do you have a trailer?
